Powerful software on which you can record and professionally process a song. Here you’ll find everything you need to thoroughly work with media files: editing multiple tracks, MIDI track support, built-in filters and effects, VST plug-ins.
Reaper is a favorite among musicians, DJs and movie studios. This program is used even in the editorial offices of the BBC.
The first thing you encounter when you run the program is its interface. The eye of an experienced user of such applications will be immediately struck by its minimalistic and even ascetic look of the main window. But still, the multi-track box and other control buttons look familiar.
The essence and all the features of the program are hidden in the settings window. It’s enough to open it and here, from their abundance you can even get a little confused. Set up everything you need and more. You can play with the settings of the sound card or set the behavior for the mouse in different windows of the application. Its functionality also allows the use of several audio subsystems: WaveOut, WDM Kernel Streaming, DirectSound and ASIO. Also worth noting is the large number of settings for audio recording.
Track Editor
Thanks to REAPER’s sophisticated functionality you can work with any number of both regular and nested tracks. This is one of the main advantages of the program and a pleasant side of working with this application, MIDI and normal audio have the same rights here and if necessary you can combine them in one track, placing them next to each other. If you want to create one effect-processor, there’s a feature here that makes it really easy, you just have to specify the send from one audio track to the other.
This parcel can be set from multiple tracks at once. With REAPER functionality you can also create whole chains of different instruments and effects, because it supports VST, VSTi, DX and DXi plug-ins. There’s also support for AU, but it’s only available for Mac.
Another feature of this program is the presence of a built-in javascript environment. Here it is used to compile and then execute the source codes of special plugins. A couple of such useful scripts come with the program itself they can be found by the initial letters of the name: JS. If you wish, you can change its text and the changes will immediately reflect on its work.
The previously mentioned multi-track editor gives the user the ability to edit the track, any of its parameters. For audio, these are send volume, panorama and others, for MIDI you adjust the VST plugins that were installed earlier. For the envelope track, you can also set any shapes you want. You can also edit the MIDI with the piano roll, which is quite easy to use and comes with the program itself.
